World Soccer: Winning Eleven 6 International is quite simply the game soccer–simulation fans have been waiting for. For one, the gameplay is as tight as you’d want it to be with a full range of moves real players would be able to pull off in a pinch. The sharpened controls draw you in, but the frighteningly robust Master League mode will absolutely own you. Imagine any of the famed franchise modes from NBA 2K3 or Madden 2003, and you have a good idea of what Winning Eleven has in store for you. Management details like negotiating contracts, developing player skills, and advancing through divisions are all included. You also get the standard International Cup, League modes, and the comprehensive UMBRO Training mode. The overall presentation gets the job done with pleasing visuals and solid audio. Character models and animation aren’t as good as those of FIFA 2003, but the stadiums look fantastic. While the crowd chants are just okay, having five selectable commentary languages that can be tweaked to suit either team is just phenomenal. Winning Eleven 6 is not as flashy as FIFA, but its overwhelming features and gameplay options have such depth that you could play for several years and still not see or experience everything in the game.
